Training for a Triathlon

Ben & Julie are training for a Triathlon scheduled for July 6th. Val and I watched Will on the beach while they endured the frigid waters of Idaho.

Val and Will spent quality rock throwing time together.

Will floats one in the air.

NICE STUFF

I am sure at one point in my life Nice Stuff was important to me. Some of the cars I built were fairly nice but not show quality. I made some nice parts at work but that was a requirement. Val and I would both agree that a home is where you raise a family along with signs of wear. It has been brought to my attention many times that we have not had new furniture for over 30years, maybe longer. My excuse would always be, the kids would ruin it in a week. After the kids were gone the excuse fell on the cats and dogs in the house. Any furniture or decor worthy of notice in our home stems from ingenuity, resourcefulness and creativity inherent in Val. She has scrounged some nice stuff over the years. Together we made the living room presentable. Now I am going to take on the bed room after 30 years of neglect.

Val is very creative. She built this bed frame out of spare doors.

My hat is off to Val for tearing up 3/4's of the carpet and stripping off all the adhesive and finishing the hard wood floor. It remained like this for three more years.

The base boards and walls were a wreck.

A lot of the trim was never finished from the last attempt at painting.

This small area took me a day to tear up and strip. I can't imagine the fun Val had when she stripped and finished most of the floor 3 years ago.

This work requires you to humble yourself and get on your hands and knees.

No more carpet or adhesive. What a sight for sore eyes.

Before picture of ceiling and walls.

After picture of ceiling and walls. Earthy desert colors.

                                                       Ultra white trim through out.

                                                 Terracotta bedroom and closet doors.

                                                               My dollar sign shelf.
The finished floor. You could eat of this f_ _ _ er!

All steal bed frame painted espresso brown.

Cedar fencing slats sanded, stained and cut to represent a mountain theme.
The dark slats represent the Tetons and the light represent a Desert bluff (hot and cold climates).

This was a white particle board set of drawers I refinished in a cool desert accent.
Of coarse Val needed a book case next to her side of the bed. This is how I will always remember Val.
It is built out of a welded up metal square tube frame with wood accent. The book shelves lift off.

                                                                   Back scratch er rack.

Finished room. I slept up in the loft for a month while I was refinishing this room.

                                                                Little added touches.
Val,s blond armoire dresser (which she got from a renter short on cash) was in really tough shape. It was chipped gouged and broken down in a few places. The outside walls were warped so bad that the long doors would hardly open and close. I shelved the two clothes closets to take out some of the warpage. When I sanded under the blond stain and varnish I found that it had a Mahogany veneer. The long closets have a cedar veneer. This is how it cleaned up.

Anyway it was a bunch of work and worth it in the end. Life is good!!

Finally a day fit for a BBQ

It was Blaine's Birthday (June 9th) and some of the family gathered for the occasion and the food. Grilled Salmon on cedar board was the top item and we finished with fresh strawberry pie.

Blaine turned the corner on 67

Looks like Blaine is still saying a prayer on the food
